The Beijing Research Base for Cultural Industries and Publishing Media is committed to supporting the development of Beijing as a national cultural center and promoting reform and innovation in the publishing and media industries. Leveraging the disciplinary strengths of Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication (BIGC), the base integrates resources in cultural industry management, media economics, and digital publishing. Led by Professor Wang Guanyi, former Standing Committee Member of BIGC Party Committee and Vice President, the base operates under three key research directions: Innovation and Development of the Cultural Industry, Integration and Upgrading of Publishing Media, and Digital Publishing and Communication. Focusing on cutting-edge areas, the base currently has 65 researchers, is undertaking 44 research projects, and is training 22 graduate students. In 2024, it undertook nine projects, including the Beijing Social Science Foundation Key Project Beijing Cultural Industry Development Report (2025). It has published 43 high-level academic papers in fields such as digital publishing, the metaverse, and AIGC (AI-generated content), and released six monographs, including Art Cities: Theory and Practice. Through practice-oriented initiatives like Reviving Old Books with New Knowledge: Reading to Serve the Nation, the base promotes cultural heritage, explores digital transformation pathways for brick-and-mortar bookstores, and contributes to the deep integration of culture and technology.
